Job Description
A Lecturer in Plant Breeding and Genetics is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, conducting research, assisting in student supervision, and contributing to curriculum development. The role also involves participating in departmental activities and supporting research and field-based crop improvement initiatives.
Job Specification/Requirement
• Have a PhD with thesis in relevant areas of specialization from a reputable University; in addition to membership of professional bodies. • Have at least Two (2) years post-qualification teaching and research experience in an analogous institution of higher learning and have at least two (2) refereed publications in their areas of specialization. • Demonstrated potential for research and scholarly publication. • Ability to assist in supervising student projects and field experiments. • Good communication and interpersonal skills. • Commitment to academic and professional development. • Membership of relevant professional bodies is an advantage.
Skills Required/Qualification
• Demonstrate a good understanding of plant breeding, genetics, and crop improvement principles. • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical field sessions effectively. • Conduct research and contribute to academic knowledge. • Demonstrate the ability to develop, review, and improve curricula and course content. • Design instructional materials and learning activities that support effective teaching and learning. • Assist in supervising student breeding trials and field experiments. • Apply analytical and statistical skills to genetic data analysis. • Interpret experimental and field data accurately. • Communicate ideas clearly in both oral and written forms. • Work effectively as part of an academic and research team.
